FREEDOMに関する名言

英語の勉強をしていると「自由」という日本語に該当するものとして
libertyとfreedomを学びますね。

英英辞典の定義を見るとlibertyは
the freedom and the right to do whatever you want
without asking permission or being afraid of authority

じゃあlibertyの中に含まれるfreedomはというと
the right to do what you want without being controlled
or restricted by anyone

となります。


なにげにわかりにくいんですし、辞書なんかを見るといろんな
ことが書かれているんでさらに混乱しますが個人的には


libertyの中にある
without being controlled or restricted by anyone
つまり、「制約を受けない」


freedomの中にある
without asking permission or being afraid of authority
つまり、「許可を求めず、権威を気にしない」


の差かな、と思ってます。
freedomの方が広い意味での「自由」を感じるのに対し、
libertyは「制約から解き放たれた」感じがします。
